When
I started this little “Circus” Mini-Series, I was faced with the
very real fear of “What happens if the Shutdown keeps going and
absolutely nothing happens? I mean would it devolve down to “This
just in, Dolphins still missing” every single day? (For those who
don't get the reference, read the late Great, Douglas Adams So
long and thanks for all the fish. You will be glad you did.) I
suppose I could just run a paragraph long blog every day saying,
“Federal Government still has massive stick up its ass and mud in
its head” but really who would read that day in and day out?
As
proof that God answers prayers, when I awoke this morning I found
that my wife had updated her status on Facebook to this:
Dear
friends. You know how much I love and adore you; but, you're really
driving me mad by reposting half-baked political diatribe. I know
many of you are furloughed and need something to do, but could you
possibly do something more useful with your time. If you'd like to
start your own FB campaign, why don't you post your current
employment status and how the furlough is affecting you. If you'd
like to avoid being honest with your feelings, I could use some more
FarmVille
2 friends. If you're having a great time, enjoying all that life
has to offer, post pictures and movie reviews so I can live
vicariously through you.
The point is this: If you can't prove what you're posting is true, all you're doing is pissing the rest of us off.

(As
humorous aside and to kind of reinforce what she is talking about, I

support the ACA which of course are the exact same thing. A healthy
chunk of them hated Obamacare but supported the ACA. One woman even
goes so far to initially deny that they are one in the same. This is
the propaganda and misinformation that is running rampant in this
country and not just on health care. Okay back to my wife's
comments.)
Now,
Folks my amazing Wife is one of the least outspoken I
know. She very rarely comments on anything besides cute kitten
photos and such on FB. Despite her claims to be a mean spirited
person, she tends to be very polite and nice. This cordial nature
has been drummed into her since the day she was able to talk. So for
her to suddenly break out a can of verbal whupass on her FB buddies
is a sure sign that people need to take a reality check.
You
folks know me. I am a grade A Number 1 Jerk. I insult everyone and
question pretty much anyone's sanity and intelligence levels. I will
pop some insults into people at the drop of a hat if I think they
deserve them. It is what I am and it is what I have been for well
over 30 years. I never hold back and I am never frightened off a
subject. This prolly makes it easier for some of my detractors to
ignore me even when I am hitting the nail on the head. After all, a
rant is a rant.
When
you suddenly get people like my wife (and I have noticed a few others
too) who are normally non-confrontational and nice telling people in
so many words to either put up or shut up, then you have a pretty
good sign that things are going a bit far.
Like
I always tell people, double check your sources and make sure of your
facts. I see way to many people posting “facts” from websites
that are nothing more than opinion pages and touting them as proof.
If your new source has no actual sources to back up its claims then
it is just someone's opinion, not facts.
It
is okay to dislike Obama. It is fine that you don't like
Republicans. It is okay to disapprove and dislike anything you with.
As long as you do it privately and wash your hands afterward, you
don't even have to back your dislikes up with real facts and data.
However, the moment you start posting “Boehner is secretly a Shape
Shifting Alien Squid sent to steal our cookies” you had better
have evidence to back it up. (Even though I will hide my cookies
just to be safe.) In the end, the only person you are hurting when
you post propaganda and lies over the Interwebz is yourself. Sure
you might find a few like minded nutjobs out there to support you,
but the vast majority of people will read your posts and think you
are a moron.
