As the Circus rolls down towards its closing day, things get even
more entertaining and silly. House Reboobicans have so disorganized
and antagonistic among their own people that they cannot even bring
forth a Bill that they agree on despite the fact they are essentially
in full control of things. You know the clowns are running the
circus when your bill is killed before birth, not by your opposition,
but by your own party. That is about as dysfunctional as you can
possibly get.
Here we are just days away from reaching our borrowing limit and a
situation that most experts agree could cause another Great
Recession, not to mention yet another downgrade of the US's credit
score and House Republicans are to busy squabbling among themselves
to even pretend to be trying to work out some sort of deal. Things
are going to Hell in a hand basket, but our so called leaders are too
busy listening to outside forces to get the problem fixed.
It
is a sure sign of just how fugged up our Government is when powerful
influence groups pretty much decide how the Fed votes. It happens on
both sides of the coin, but my example in this instance is the
Heritage Action for America group
that has on several occasions influenced our elected officials not to
vote on certain movements. In the current case, Boehner's proposed
offerings were shot down as not conservative enough so they died
before they were even born.
The
very fact that very small but extremely powerful groups like HAA can
essentially dictate how our leaders vote and what policies are put
forth shows better than anything else just how broken our Government
is. We, the People are no longer even remotely in charge of our
nation. No matter how the majority of people might feel about any
given subject, the only real influence that matters is that of people
in power.
Unlike
what some people claim, I am well aware that continuously increasing
our Borrowing Cap doesn't do anything but make our overall problems
bigger. We need to balance the books across the board and start
spending our incomes more wisely. The system has been busted into a
billion tiny pieces and it is going to take a lot of work to put it
back together again. But as I pointed out to a friend last night,
this problem didn't happen overnight and no matter how much the
extremists want to believe other wise, it isn't going to be fixed
overnight.
I
guess, despite loads of inherent cynicism, I am a sort of Pollyanna
(Disney movies and a great book. You should read it.) when it comes
to people in general and our Leaders in particular. I like to think
that no matter how stupid the dog is, if you rub his nose in the Poop
he has created that eventually he will stop crapping over everything.
Negative reinforcement (In this case, a whole lot of people losing
their seats come next election) might just be enough to make the
monkeys in the Fed understand that people are just sick and tired of
all their crap.
Sadly,
I think we have actually reached the point that the majority of
Americans would be happy enough if our Lackwit Leaders actually just
did something that even vaguely resembled working together. I really
feel that we have reached a level of honked off that we wouldn't care
what was cut or what was chucked just so long as the Fed could at
least give the illusion of fixing the problem. Would the recipients
of Benefits for Left Handed Red Headed Cellists be upset when their
String Supplements were cut? Hell yes, but at least there would
still be some form of action going on that would give us all
something else to be cranky about. Instead we are stuck with SSDD
over and over again.
Like
I said, I am sick and tired of this Circus. You watch the same dog
and pony show over and over again every day and you just want to
start tossing peanuts at the performers. The Clowns in DC need to
finish up the Circus and move on. Maybe we can get a good Magic Show
in next?
