Just as I was about convinced that I would have to do a “This just
in, Dolphins still missing” piece since absolutely nothing is going
on with our so-called leaders as we enter the second week of the
Government Shutdown, my good friend MA posted the above bit of
cheerful commentary. This got me thinking (Which as all of you know
is very very dangerous since my head tends to explode more often than
not.) No, not really about how one side or the other has caused the
Fed to function even less than it normally does. I got to thinking
about how far does one go to maintain their beliefs and ideas.
History is full of people who go to extreme even suicidal (Literally
in some cases) lengths to defend what they think is right. It
doesn't matter that these lengths would be deemed absolutely idiotic
to anyone on the outside looking in. Fer instance, the Kamikaze
Pilots of World War II. I mean really, who in their right mind
thinks that crashing your perfectly good airplane into the side of
ship is a good idea? Anyone?
How about the doomed Horse Calvary Charges led by the Soviets during
the same war against Panzer tanks with really really big guns? Any
takers for that job? Huh, don't see any hands being raised. Or how
about in more modern times people who strap bombs on themselves and
blow themselves up? Hey there has to be a line for that, right?
Anyone ready to go? Oh come on! Someone?
Each of the people that did these obviously insane things probably
truly believed that they were doing the right thing not just for
themselves, but for their country/belief system. No matter that
anything even resembling common sense or self preservation should
have told them otherwise. Hells, I'm not the brightest soul in the
world and even I know better than that.
So now, we have a small group of fanatics holding the country
hostage. People like Ted Cruz and pretty much all of the Tea Party
have strapped metaphorical bombs to their chests and are threatening
to let them blow up if they don't get their way. They are willing to
destroy this country than to compromise.
The Majority of Republicans are against these tactics and even a few
of the Tea Party Rank and File are starting to make noises about
maybe things were going a little too far. We have far passed the
place where good old fashioned common sense should have forced to the
Republicans to back off of an obviously unwinnable situation and
focus on a bigger fight where they might have some chance of winning
concessions. However, those who wish to negotiate and compromise are
being held hostage by the suicidal people bent on destroying everyone
who opposes them.
Sadly, this fight has devolved way past Defunding/Slowing Obamacare.
It has literally become a case of “We have been disrespected...We
are going to get something out of this...don't know what that is...”
What is this, the second grade and the Tea Beggars didn't get their
cookie break? It is past time we chucked each and every single
person on the Hill off the train and maybe elected someone who's
maturity level exceeds that of say a 6 year old?
End of Rant
