What is in a name?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/14/asiana-tv-station-fake-pilot-names/2515541/

Okay folks, I am usually the first one to rail against unnecessary law suits that clog up our legal systems around the world, but I gotta say I am kind of on the Airline's side on this one.
For those who are unaware there was a horrible crash involving an Asiana Jet not too long ago. Almost immediately afterwards, the NTSB and a Fox News Affiliate got seriously punked when someone gave them a list of “Pilot Names” that were more than a little bit racially offensive and also not exceedingly funny.
Ordinarily I'd be trotting out the “Hey everyone makes mistakes” argument because everyone does make mistakes, but come on peeples! Just look at this list! Sound it out in your head! Anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together can see that this is a really bad prank. The fact that both the NTSB (One of our oh so effective Government agencies) and a Affiliate of a National News Agency (Well Okay, Fox News, but that is not the point.) did not catch this makes me shake my ever balding head in disbelieve.
So now, on top of this tragedy, Asiana has to deal with the annoyance and stupidity of people who were to lazy to do their jobs or just didn't care. Maybe a lawsuit will make both parties do their jobs better in the future.
Now in the Accused defense, they have issued apologies. But since neither NTSB or Fox News has explained exactly where the names came from, I have to wonder if it was a inside job and now both agencies are trying to cover their collective asses.
The main thing to take away from all of this is this. Low brow, racial humor is inappropriate in any case (See my blogs on “Lady Chinky Eyes” etc on that. But when you are dealing with a tragedy such as a plane crash, it is really inappropriate. Someone should have caught this before it even got to the air waves. Someone didn't so something needs to be done.
End of Rant
