Whelp folks, here we are again. The Debt Ceiling looms and suddenly everyone BUT the Pollytickans are facing not getting paid. The whole damned thing reminds me of that quote from the Battlestar Galactica reboot, "All this has happened before..." On one side, we got the President trying to terry the American people with statements like, "We might not be able to pay our troops, or honor our contracts with small business owners,"
Pardon my bluntness, but WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE IDIOTS? Congress will get paid. The Senate will get paid. The President will get paid. Hell all the ex-Presidents will get paid. No problem there! We will continue Corporate Welfare to Big Business! Also not a problem. But hey we won't be able to pay the men and women who risk their lives everyday. Sorry times are a bit tight. And we won't be able to support the small businesses that keep America going. Nope cannot be done!
Now the thing that truly honks me off is this tired old crap gets trotted out every single time there is any sort of emergency. It is all posturing and fire spitting designed to do one single thing. Scare the crap out of us. We are supposed to think, "Oh crap. We are all going to die!" This is designed to keep us from really grokking the fact that this so-called emergency is easily avoidable. The answer doesn't take months of rhetoric and screaming. All that has to be done is for both sides to sit down, spend a couple of hours speaking calmly and reasonably to work out a plan. A little compromise, a little concession and poof, problem solved.
Now, the sad reality is this. It ain't going to happen. Both sides will continue their little song and dance accusing the other of being the reincarnation of Attila the Hun bent on destroying the country. Both sides will stand on the mountain top crying out to the peeples to believe that their way is the only true path and the vast majority of Americans will believe them and curse the other side.
The last big debacle proved that both sides can reach a bi-partisan agreement. In this case, it was a really bad bi-partisan agreement, but at least they actually managed to work together to reach one. (Admittedly several days past the deadline, but hey we can overlook that little tidbit.) Now if only they can do it again and actually produce an agreement that works.
I mean, the facts don't look too good. Fact #1: Regardless of whether or not the two sides can reach an agreement to reduce Federal Spending and (Please God) balance the budget, the Debt Ceiling HAS to be raised at least one more solid time. The US cannot afford to default on it's debts. Pretty much all the experts on either side agree that this could destroy the Economy and send us spiraling into another Great Depression. Fact #2: We HAVE to cut Government spending. The US Government has more pork and waste in it than a planet sized pig farm. (Pigs...Waste...Get it?)
If and I so mean IF we can get spending under control then the whole balancing the budget thing will pretty much work itself out. Money isn't the Government's problems, spending to much of it is. So folks, instead of toeing the Party line and believing all the crap the other side is flinging, (Seriously Washington reminds me of monkeys in the zoos tossing their own poop.) demand that the Pollytickans stop their BS and actually do their damned jobs. You can find the name and address of every single Senator/Congressman out there on the Interwebz and well everyone knows where the President lives. "Let the truth of your words be heard and never let yourself be silenced!"
